Our clients were looking to build their dream home. They sought a sustainable, energy-efficient house
A beautiful 3 storey house in an urban area
This three-storey family home in Renmore, Galway, was designed and built for a young family of four, including two small children. The clients had explored various building solutions but found MMC Eco Homes to be the most cost-effective, solid, and quick option available.
With a strong connection to the area, the family had been renting locally while searching for the right solution. Speed was a key factor in their decision, as they needed to move into their new home as soon as possible. Our advanced building system allowed us to deliver a high-quality, energy-efficient home within a short timeframe, ensuring they could settle into their new space without delays.
Throughout the project, it was a pleasure to work with such a lovely family. Their enthusiasm and positive approach made the process even more rewarding, and we’re delighted to have played a role in creating a home that will serve them well for generations to come.
To deliver a cost-effective, solid, and quick solution for this young family, MMC Eco Homes utilized our Structurally Insulated Panel (SIPs) system which allowed for off-site manufacturing, meaning that once on-site, the structure was assembled and made weathertight in just 5 days. This reduced labour time and disruption, allowing for a much faster overall build.
Beyond speed, the home was designed to be warm, comfortable, and energy-efficient. The A-rated house features superior airtightness and high-performance insulation, significantly reducing energy consumption. The client also opted to install solar PV panels integrated into the roof tiles, further reducing their reliance on grid electricity and enhancing the home’s sustainability.
Now, the family enjoys a home that is solid, secure, and built to last. Their energy bills are minimal, thanks to the combination of high insulation, airtightness, and renewable energy integration. Most importantly, they have a comfortable, efficient home in the heart of the community they love, built in a fraction of the time, and of a higher quality than traditional construction methods.
The pre-construction phase focused on detailed planning and design to ensure a smooth and efficient build. Since the family needed to move in quickly, we worked closely with them to finalize layouts, optimize structural efficiency, and ensure all elements were prefabricated off-site for rapid on-site assembly. The client also chose to integrate solar PV panels within the roof tiles, which was factored into the overall design.
On-site, the SIPs structure was assembled within 5 days, creating an airtight, highly insulated envelope that exceeded energy efficiency standards. The use of engineered floor joists allowed for quick and precise installation, ensuring a strong and durable framework. This approach not only sped up construction but also minimized waste and on-site labour requirements, keeping costs down and quality high.
Once the structure was complete, the focus shifted to ensuring long-term comfort and efficiency. The airtight SIPs envelope created a low-energy home with minimal heating costs. The solar-integrated roof tiles provided additional savings by reducing reliance on the grid. With a robust, high-performance build, the family now enjoys a solid, comfortable home with extremely low energy bills, built in a fraction of the time of traditional construction.
“It’s not just a house—it’s our forever home; in a community we love.” – Padraic & Danielle Hickey, Homeowners
From the very beginning, the team at MMC Eco Homes worked with us to create a space that fits our family’s needs perfectly. As teachers, we value sustainability and innovation, and this home reflects everything we’ve hoped for.
The use of prefabricated SIPs and engineered systems reduced construction time by approximately 60% compared to traditional methods, allowing the family to move in much faster than they initially expected. The total time from ground to paint was around 4.5 months
The combination of airtight SIPs, energy efficient heating systems, and integrated solar PV roof tiles created a home with exceptional thermal performance, resulting in minimal heating and electricity costs.
By leveraging modern methods of construction, the project was completed within budget, with cost savings from reduced labour time, minimal material waste, and improved energy efficiency compared to traditional builds. The client reported huge savings compared to other routes.
The family was thrilled with the outcome, particularly appreciating the solid structure, comfortable and cosy feel, fast build time, and energy savings that allow them to enjoy a comfortable, future-proof home with peace of mind.
